Admin History | The Bank of England's tercentenary was celebrated in 1994. 130 Central Bank Governors were invited to attend a symposium on the future of central banking. Papers were given by Stanley Fischer, Charles Goodhart and Forrest Capie. The symposium ended with a panel session involving Lord Richardson, Paul Volcker, Jacques Delarosiere and Karl-Otto Pohl. Meanwhile, Bankers' wives were treated to a tour of Hampton Court Palace followed by a meal in the Royal Apartments. Other events included a musical gala at the Barbican Centre and the launch of a commemorative £2 coin. The celebrations culminated in a service of thanksgiving at St Paul's Cathedral attended by HM The Queen. |
