ActivityBlunden was educated at the City of London School and University College, Oxford, and served with the Army during the Second World War. He joined the Bank in 1947. Blunden was seconded to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) between 1955 and 1958 and was a Deputy Chief Cashier (1968 - 1973), Chief of Management Services (1973 - 1974) and Head of Banking Supervision (1974 - 1976). He was appointed an Executive Director in 1974. His second term as Executive Director ended in 1984 (he was 61), though he stayed on the Court as a Non-Executive Director. In 1986, Blunden was appointed Deputy Governor in succession to Kit McMahon, and served in this position until the end of April 1990.
