ActivityEducated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge, Goodhart was an assistant lecturer in economics at Cambridge before becoming an adviser at the Department of Economic Affairs in 1965. He moved to the London School of Economics in 1967 as a lecturer in monetary economics. In 1969 Goodhart joined the Bank as adviser on monetary policy and remained in this role until 1985, the last five years as Chief Adviser. He left the Bank in 1985 to be Norman Sosnow Professor of Banking and Finance at the London School of Economics, a position he held until 2002. Goodhart was one of the first External Members of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) from 1997 - 2000.
