ActivityThe Banking Department was created in 1980 as part of the reorganisation which saw the end of the Cashier's Department. The new department was much reduced in size and importance but the Chief of the Banking Department also retained the title of Chief Cashier and was responsible for signing Bank notes. Divisions within the department included Banking, Banknotes and Security, and Payment Systems.

During the reorganisation of the Bank in 1994, the banking area was placed under the Monetary Stability area as Banking and Market Services. The name was changed to Banking Services in 2002.
