ActivityLeslie O'Brien (GBE 1967, PC 1970) was educated at Wandsworth and joined the Bank in 1927. During the Second World War O'Brien was Private Secretary to Governors Montagu Norman and Lord Catto. He was Deputy Chief Cashier between 1951 and 1955, and Chief Cashier from 1955 to 1962, after which he became Executive Director with responsibility for home finance in 1962. O'Brien was made Deputy Governor in 1964 and two years later he succeeded Rowley Cromer as Governor. He retired as Governor when he reached his 65th birthday in 1973.
