Please note that from 1 August 2008 the Bank of England Archive will no longer be open to researchers on Fridays.

The Archive will also be closed to external researchers for stocktaking from Monday 10th November to Friday 21st November 2008. We will continue to answer enquiries during this period.

Composition of booksThe Bank has a very extensive archive which covers every aspect of its administration, dating from its foundation in 1694 to the present. The archive not only offers an internal information service to the Bank's various departments, but also provides research facilities for researchers from all over the world.

The Bank's archive holds a broad range of material of interest to researchers in a large number of fields. The Bank's records are of prime importance to economic historians, but our holdings are also of potential interest to social, local and business historians, architectural specialists, biographers and genealogists.

Follow the links above for more information on the Archive.
