The Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors of Canada,
France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the USA meet together
regularly to discuss economic and financial issues of mutual
interest (Russia also attends for items that are of particular
interest to it) . The Ministers and Governors meetings are prepared
through a process of frequent contacts between officials of
the Finance Ministries and Central Banks of these countries.
As the holder of the G7/G8 Presidency throughout 2005 the UK
has the responsibility for taking the lead in organising the
preparations for meetings to be held during the year. Further
information can be found at the
G7 2005 website.
There is also an annual summit between the Heads of Government of these seven countries plus Russia at which a wider range of issues than purely economic ones are discussed (and a wider range of ministries are involved in the preparation of issues that will be taken at the Heads of Government meeting). Further information can be found at the G8 2005 Website
