John Footman, Executive Director, Central Services
Appointed to current position from 16 June 2003. Central Services divisions encompass a range of support functions that underpin the Bank's activities and help to ensure that the Bank's reputation is maintained. These include finance, IT, property (including security), personnel, the Governor's private offices, press and public relations, the investment unit, legal services and Business Continuity

John joined the Bank in 1969 as an A Level entrant. Since joining the Bank he has working in various areas of the Bank including Economic Intelligence Department (the predecessor of Monetary Analysis), the Overseas Department and Industrial Finance Division. John was seconded to the Securities and Investments Board from 1985-86. He was Principal Private Secretary to Bank of England Governor Leigh-Pemberton from 1986-89 when he became Head of Information Division. In 1994 he became Secretary of the Bank, a post he held until becoming Deputy Director for Financial Structure. From 1999 until his current appointment John was Personnel Director.

John lives in London, with his wife and five children.
