David Walton
David Walton passed away on 21 June 2006. Please see link to news release under 'Related Links'.

David Walton was appointed as an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee with effect from 1 July 2005. The Monetary Policy Committee is responsible for setting interest rates to meet the Government’s inflation target.

David was born on 30 May 1963. He started his career working as an Economist at HM Treasury from 1984 to 1986. He joined the economics team at Goldman Sachs in 1987 where he became Chief European Economist.

David was educated at Durham University (BA Mathematics and Economics) and Warwick University (MA Economics). He was Chairman of the Society of Business Economists.
