Juliet Wheldon, Chief Legal Adviser and Adviser to the Governor
Juliet Wheldon was appointed Chief Legal Adviser and Adviser to the Governor of the Bank of England from 1 August 2006.

Juliet was called to the Bar (Gray's Inn) in 1975. She joined the Treasury Solicitor's Department as one of the lawyers advising HMT in 1976 and was HMT's Legal Adviser between 1984-86. In 1983-84 and 1986-87 she was seconded to the Attorney General's Office which is the clearing house for difficult legal issues within Government. Juliet returned to the Treasury Solicitor's Department from 1987-89 and then to the Attorney General's Office from 1989-97. In 1997-2000 she was the Legal Adviser to the Home Office. From July 2000-July 2006 Juliet was the Treasury Solicitor and Head of the Government Legal Service (GLS).

Juliet lives in London and her interests include travel, art history, theatre and opera.

She was appointed an honorary QC in 1997, a DCB in 2004 and elected an honorary fellow of Lady Margaret Hall in 2006. She is a patron of the Human Rights Lawyers' Association.
