Exchanging for a business via the post

​Banknotes sent by post are done so at the sender's risk - please make sure the appropriate measures are taken to insure against loss or theft.

As the money being exchanged belongs to a business, in addition to completing the Business Banknote Exchanges form using the link below, you must also provide the following: 


​Value of exchange ​What ID is required? ​Payment type ​What should be in my envelope?

  1.   ​A covering letter on company headed paper which must include the following:

  • Company Name and Registration number
  • Registered Office in country of incorporation
  • The full address for the business
  • Preferred payment method. If this is a bank account please provide the sort code and account number.

  2.  A copy of Photo ID* for the person signing the covering letter.

  3.  A copy of proof of address* for the person signing the cover letter.

​*Proof of address provided should be dated within the last six months.
In exceptional circumstances, the Bank of England may at its discretion accept other forms of identification. If you are unable to provide any of the listed forms of identification or proof of address, please contact the Bank of England prior to submitting your claim.


Bank of England Banknote Exchanges Term & Conditions

 At the Bank's discretion, banknotes may be retained at any value in order for additional checks to take place; you may be required to provide ID at any value or provide additional information or evidence to support the stated origin of the banknotes.
If for any reason it is not possible to exchange a claim immediately, especially if it is of high value, you will be contacted by the Bank.
