During the summer break (22 July – 30 August), the Museum invites you to discover some of its hidden treasures by answering clues and following the trail. Some of the fascinating objects you will discover in your journey include a 300 years old treasure chest, gold coins, a £1,000,000 banknote and several gold bars, one of which can even be handled.
Once you’ve completed the trail you can make your own treasure-chest-shaped money box and colour it as you wish in the kid’s area (all materials provided). There’s also a chocolate coin for every child and prizes to be won.
A family fun day out is on offer with all the Museum attractions available. There are banknote jigsaws, an inflation roller-ball game, interactive displays that explain the Bank’s past and present roles and an opportunity for some safe cracking. You can also take control of a virtual hot air balloon and chart it on a stable course to simulate the role of the Bank in keeping inflation steady. Visitors can even try to lift a genuine gold bar with a current value of over £300,000 – although, at 13kg, its weight might take many people by surprise!
Activity sheets for children of all ages are available with a small prize for all those who take part.
Admission and all activities are free.
