Bank Stock Office

This room is a reconstruction on the original site of the architect John Soane's first major work for the Bank. The office was completed in 1793 and the reconstruction in 1988.

It was in this office that the ownership of Bank of England Stock (Bank Stock) was transferred. The investment by the public in Bank Stock in 1694 marked the beginning of the funded National Debt. Displays behind the mahogany counter illustrate the architectural history of the Bank.
