Your Money: What the Bank Does
A new permanent display which explains the role of the Bank of England in today's economy. The display looks at how the Bank maintains the value of your money, and how it protects the financial system from economic shocks.

A Bank miscellany

A unique opportunity to see some unusual treasures from the Bank's historical collections. We have searched the vaults for intriguing artefacts, from archaeological discoveries to the mystery object shown above. This exhibition will tell their surprising stories.

Chocolate egg
Follow the trail to find the chicks and egg hidden in the Museum. You can then create and decorate your own basket to take home. There's a chocolate egg for every child and prizes to be won.

Costumed Storyteller
Toad Triumphant
The adventures of Toad, Ratty, Badger and Mole, the popular characters from 'The Wind in the Willows', are retold by a costumed storyteller in these interactive and fun sessions. The book's author, Kenneth Grahame, worked at the Bank for 30 years.

To mark the centenary of the outbreak of WW1, this temporary exhibition will look at the impact the Great War had on the economy, and its effects on the Bank of England and its staff.

Learn about banknote security features then design your own secure banknote to take home. Which famous character would you choose to appear in your banknote? Or would you choose a famous building or landmark instead? What new security features would you add to make the banknote even more secure? Your imagination is the limit. Enter our competition quiz with prizes to be won. There will be talks on today's banknotes in the Museum cinema at 1:00pm

The Big Draw: As safe as the
Bank of England

Since its foundation in 1694 the Bank has forged a reputation for strength and security. Over time, the saying 'as safe as the Bank of England' has passed into the popular culture of the nation. Help us make the Bank even more secure by designing a new safe for our vaults. Enter the competition with prizes to be won. The winning designs will be displayed on the Bank's website.

Step into the world of Ratty, Mole, Badger and Toad. Professional face painters will transform young visitors into one of the well known characters from 'The Wind in the Willows' by Kenneth Grahame, a former Secretary of the Bank of England.

Get a head start for 2015 by adding your own designs of Museum exhibits to a calendar to take home. Banknotes, gold, coins, weapons once used to defend the Bank… with so many fascinating displays to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice.
