How to order Pounds & Pence
Dear Teacher
I am delighted that you have chosen to use Pounds & Pence – the Bank of England’s resource on money and prices for 9–11 year-olds. I hope you find the material instructive, engaging and fun to use.
Many
of your pupils will now have reached the age at which they
are increasingly handling money and paying for goods and services
in their everyday lives. But they are unlikely to have given
much thought to money itself – what it is and why we
trust its value. Nor will they have thought much about prices
– what things cost and why prices change.
Using a range of lively examples and familiar experiences, Pounds & Pence will, I hope, enable pupils to improve their awareness of money and prices in everyday life and give them a greater appreciation of their own spending and saving decisions, both now and in the future. I hope you will agree with our sentiment that it is never too soon to learn about such a key aspect of life. The Bank of England is committed to building understanding of the importance of keeping prices stable overall to maintain the value of our money.
I hope you and your pupils enjoy using Pounds & Pence. I would, of course, welcome any comments you may have on the topics and materials and their use in the classroom.
