Published Information on UK's Official Reserves

Management of the Official Reserves

HMT's document Management of the Official Reserves sets out a summary of the Service Level Agreement (SLA) between HMT and the Bank for the management of the Official Reserves, together with information about reserves management in the current financial year.

Since April 2000, reserves data have been published on a monthly basis in accordance with the IMF/G10's Special Data Dissemination Standard (SDDS) using the IMF International Reserves Template.

These data record the value and composition of the UK government's gold and foreign currency assets, liabilities and derivatives on a "marked-to-market" basis (that is, using current market valuations).

For time series of these data, see Data on UK official reserves

HMT issue a monthly press release which summarises the data. It also reports details of any intervention operations conducted in the foreign exchange market during the period, by either the EEA or the Bank. The most recent episode of intervention occurred in March 2011, when action was undertaken by the UK government, via the EEA, as part of a concerted intervention in yen by the G7 monetary authorities.  For further information, see the G7 and HM Treasury statement and the monthly EEA Reserves press release for March 2011.

Published annual accounts

HMT has a statutory obligation, under the Finance Act 2000, to publish annual accounts for the EEA which are audited by the National Audit Office.
