Sam Woods is a Director in the Domestic UK Banks Division at the Prudential Regulation Authority, responsible for supervision of all UK Domestic Banks and Building Societies. Prior to joining the Financial Services Authority in October 2011 he was Secretary to the Independent Commission on Banking, leading the full-time team supporting the Commission's work. In this role he was on secondment from HM Treasury where he had worked since 2001 in a variety of mainly business-facing roles.
Since 2008 he worked on issues relating to the government's bail-out of the banks, including setting up and then forming part of the senior management team of a new Treasury agency (UK Financial Investments) responsible for managing the government's stakes in the banks. Prior to HM Treasury Sam worked at Diageo and McKinsey and Co, and spent a year gaining an MBA from INSEAD.
