This page provides information on the Solvency II taxonomy firms as well as the Bank of England Insurance XBRL Taxonomy which should be used for regulatory submissions. It also contains a link to the Bank of England's Solvency II XBRL filing manual.

Bank of England Solvency II XBRL filing manual

The Solvency II XBRL filing manual (see Key Resources below) has been produced by the Bank of England to assist firms and software vendors in creating XBRL instance documents for Solvency II Pillar 3 reporting.

There is a large degree of flexibility in the XBRL reporting standard and certain decisions have been taken to remove any ambiguity and uncertainty between firms and the Bank of England (and ultimately EIOPA). The filing manual describes the filing rules applicable to remittance of XBRL instance documents for Solvency II Pillar 3 reporting in the preparatory phase.

The aim of the document is to:

  • define filing rules that limit the flexibility of XBRL in construction of XBRL instance documents (in addition to rules defined in the XBRL specifications and EIOPA Solvency II XBRL Taxonomy);
  • provide additional guidelines related to the filing of data in general or in specific cases; and
  • provide guidance on common issues found with Solvency II XBRL instance documents and how to resolve them.

Bank of England Solvency II XBRL Filing Manual v2.2 Update

On 19 December 2016 the Bank updated the Solvency II XBRL Filing Manual (see Key Resources below). The filing manual includes updates made to the EIOPA Solvency II Filing Rules document introduced with v2.1.0 of the EIOPA Solvency II Taxonomy. The filing manual also includes information covering reporting of National Specific Templates and SF (Model Drift) templates.

EIOPA Solvency Taxonomy v2.1.0 released

On 15 July 2016 - EIOPA published the final DPM and Taxonomy v2.1.0 to be used for Solvency II reporting of Q4 2016 data. Firms and vendors should refer to the ‘Solvency II reporting format’ page of the EIOPA website – see External links – as it contains a number of important artefacts under the title of “DPM and Taxonomy 2.1.0.” This includes EIOPA’s Filing Rules for Solvency II.
