Appointments at the Bank of England

John Vickers, Drummond Professor of Political Economy at Oxford University and Fellow of All Souls College, has been appointed to succeed Mervyn King as Executive Director of the Bank responsible for Monetary Analysis when Mervyn King takes up his appointment as a Deputy Governor following the enactment of the Bank of England Bill [now the Bank of England Act 1998].

Richard Brealey, Tokai Bank Professor of Finance at the London Business School, has been appointed an Adviser to the Governors on Financial Stability issues, and will join the Bank in the early Spring.

Sir Alan Budd, formerly Chief Economic Adviser to the Treasury and Head of the Government Economic Service, joined the Bank at the beginning of this week as a member of the Monetary Policy Committee.
