Takeover Panel Deputy Chairman Appointed

The Governor of the Bank of England has appointed Antony Beevor as a Deputy Chairman of the Takeover Panel with effect from 14 October 1999. Mr Beevor replaces John Hull, who is retiring.
The Governor paid tribute to the many distinguished years of service that Mr Hull had contributed to the work of the Takeover Panel.

1 The Governor appoints the Chairman, the Deputy Chairmen, and a number of independent members of the Takeover Panel, and also the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Appeal Committee of the Panel. The present Chairman of the Panel is Sir David Calcutt QC, and the other Deputy Chairman is John Walker-Haworth.
2 Antony Beevor (59) is a Managing Director at S G Hambros. He was Secretary of the Takeover Panel between 1969 and 1971, and was Director-General of the Panel from 1987 to 1989.
3 John Hull (73) was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Panel in 1987, and was formerly Deputy Chairman of Schroders plc. He served as Director-General of the Takeover Panel between 1972 and 1974.
