New £10 Note

24 October 2000

"A new design of the Bank of England £10 banknote will be issued on Tuesday 7 November," Merlyn Lowther, the Bank's Chief Cashier, announced today.

The note carries a portrait of Charles Darwin, replacing the current design which features Charles Dickens.

Fuller details will be announced in a further News Release, for publication after 0001 hours on 7 November.

A copy follows of the Bank's earlier release, dated 17 May 2000, on the subject. It also includes details of security features and a brief background to the overall design and issue of banknotes.
