Terrorist Financing: List of Suspects

28 December 2001

Following adoption by the Council of the European Union of Common Position 2001/931/CFSP of 27 December on the application of measures to combat terrorism, further names have been added to the list of entities/individuals who are suspected of committing, or posing a significant risk of committing, or providing material support for, acts of terrorism. Financial institutions are requested to check whether they maintain any account for the entities named below and, if so, they should freeze the accounts and report their findings to the Bank of England.

The additional names are:

Entities

1. Continuity Irish Republican Army (CIRA).

2. Loyalist Volunteer Force (LVF).

3. Orange Volunteers (OV).

4. Red Hand Defenders (RHD).

5. Ulster Defence Association/Ulster Freedom Fighters (UDA/UFF).

These names are in addition to those listed in Annex A to the Bank's Notices dated 6 December and Annex 1 to the Bank's Notice dated 21 December 2001 - each entitled NOTICE CONTAINING A DIRECTION UNDER ARTICLE 4 OF THE TERRORISM (UNITED NATIONS MEASURES) ORDER 2001 (S.I. 2001/3365).

Note to Editors

The Bank has previously issued notices concerning Afghanistan and Terrorism on 3 May 2000, 23 February, 2 April, 10 & 12 October, 2 & 8 November and 6 & 21 December 2001.
