Financial Sanctions: Terrorist Financing

This news release is issued in respect of the financial measures taken against terrorism.

The Bank of England, as agent for Her Majesty’s Treasury, issues this news release to advise that Council Decision 2005/221/CFSP implementing Article 2(3) of Regulation (EC) No 2580/2001 on specific restrictive measures directed against certain persons and entities with a view to combating terrorism and repealing Decision 2004/306/EC was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 16 March 2005. The Council Decision adds the entity named below to the list of those to whom Regulation 2580/2001 applies.

The Bank of England, as agent for Her Majesty’s Treasury, advises that there is as a result a binding and directly applicable obligation in Community law to freeze all funds, other financial assets and economic resources belonging to, or owned or held by Al-Aqsa e.V., and not to make any funds, other financial assets and economic recourses available, directly or indirectly to, or for the benefit of Al-Aqsa e.V.: Article 2(1) of Regulation 2580/2001. Financial institutions are requested to check whether they maintain any accounts or otherwise hold any funds for the entity named below and, if so, they should freeze the accounts or other funds and report their findings to the Bank of England.
