Welcome for the new Chairman of The Federal Reserve

24 October 2005

Welcoming the appointment of Ben Bernanke as next chairman of the Federal Reserve, Mervyn King, Governor of the Bank of England, said:

“The nomination of Ben Bernanke as the next chairman of the Federal Reserve will be warmly welcomed around the world. It will not be easy to follow in Alan Greenspan’s footsteps, but Ben has the intellectual and personal qualities to lead the Federal Reserve in the years ahead. I would like to extend my personal congratulations to Ben, whom I have known since we had adjoining offices at MIT when we were both visiting professors there in the early 1980s.”
