Financial Sanctions: Al-Qa'ida and the Taliban

This news release is issued in respect of the financial measures taken against Al-Qa'ida and the Taliban.
The Bank of England, as agent for Her Majesty's Treasury, has today directed financial institutions that any funds which they hold for or on behalf of the entity named below must be frozen. This is because Her Majesty's Treasury have reasonable grounds for suspecting that the entity is or may be a person acting on behalf of a person designated by the UN Sanctions Committee in the list it maintains in accordance with Security Council resolution 1390.
Financial institutions are requested to check whether they maintain any accounts or otherwise hold any funds for the entity named below and, if so, they should freeze the accounts or other funds and report their findings to the Bank of England.
