Statement on Banknote Storage Security

The review of the security of banknote storage which the Bank of England announced yesterday is being headed by Sir John Gieve, Deputy Governor of the Bank. Sir John's remit includes an immediate review of the security standards the Bank expects from the cash handling industry, and the Governor has asked Sir John to make a preliminary report to him on this within two weeks. Sir John will also be assessing whether there are any aspects of the Note Circulation Scheme that need improvement.
