List of Publications on Europe

The Government has published three outline National Changeover Plans (NCP) on the practical aspects of possible UK entry into EMU, most recently in June 2003. These and other euro-related documents can be found on www.euro.gov.uk. The Bank has responsibility under the NCP for co-ordinating, where necessary, planning in the wholesale financial markets for possible UK entry into EMU.

To assist in this process, the Bank chairs a City Euro Group with broad representation across the City. It meets twice a year. The latest guidance agreed with market practitioners is incorporated in the City Guide to a UK Euro Changeover.

Before January 1999, the Bank produced Practical Issues Arising from the Introduction of the Euro, providing practical information for financial market firms' preparations for the launch of the euro, both in the UK and overseas. Following the introduction of the euro and until November 2002, the Bank produced Practical issues arising from the euro, issued periodically. These publications provided information on the evolution of the euro financial markets in practice, including the contribution made by City market firms; details of the financial sector changeover to the euro in the 12 first-wave countries; and the technical financial sector preparations for potential UK entry to EMU.
