Financial Stability and
Depositor Protection:
Strengthening the Framework

The Chancellor of the Exchequer launched on Wednesday 30 January, a consultation outlining proposals to strengthen the current framework for financial stability and depositor framework. This is a joint publication by HM Treasury, the Financial Services Authority and the Bank of England.

The release of this consultation document follows the release of the discussion paper Banking Reform: Protecting Depositors on 11 October 2007 and sets out the Authorities' emerging conclusions and proposed action, both in the UK and internationally.

The Government intends to follow this consultation by introducing legislation into the Parliament later in this session.

Comments on the proposals and impact assessment are welcome by 23 April 2008.
