Silvana Tenreyro talks about macroeconomic models and suggests they are like maps. We use them to simplify our complex world to give us only the information we need. She talks about how she uses them for her work on the Monetary Policy Committee but stresses they must be combined with careful, informed judgement. Finally, she explains why she recently voted to keep the Bank of England’s monetary policy unchanged.
