Prefixes

Series codes have been created to identify each series uniquely. The majority of series have seven letters/numbers, although there are some which are longer. All codes have a three letter prefix (listed below). The first letter of each code signifies the area in the Bank responsible for this data and the third represents the frequency of that series (M for monthly, Q for quarterly and A for annual). The second letter is an internal identifier. In some instances there is a fourth letter (A or L) that stands for average or level. The remaining letters/numbers are series-identifier codes.

Where these series are identical to National Statistics, the same series-identifying codes have been used. Some codes contain a suffix of further characters which identify breakdowns of a series, for example for country breakdowns.
