Analysis of bank deposits from and lending to UK residents
2nd Quarter 2005

10 August 2005

Lending to other financial corporations (OFCs) increased by £10.8bn in Q2, weaker than the £18.0bn increase in Q1. Lending to non-financial corporations (NFCs) rose by £23.9bn driven by strong increases in lending to both public administration and defence (£5.6bn), following a repayment of £9.4bn in the previous quarter, and real estate companies (a) (£5.5bn).

Deposits from OFCs rose by £43.4bn. The largest factor behind this move was an increase of £27.7bn from other financial auxiliaries, of which £21.3bn was in foreign currencies. Deposits from NFCs rose by £10.5bn, with a rise of £11.9bn in sterling being partially offset by a fall of £1.4bn in other currencies.
