Analysis of bank deposits from and lending to UK residents
4th Quarter 2006
Deposits from other financial corporations (OFCs) increased by £32.0bn in Q4, driven by deposits from other financial intermediaries (+£18.9bn) and securities dealers (+£6.6bn). Deposits from non-financial corporations (NFCs) rose by £6.0bn, mainly reflecting increases from manufacturing (+£7.0bn) and wholesale and retail trade (+£2.4bn). Firms involved in public administration and defence reduced their deposits by £4.1bn.
Lending to OFCs increased by £22.7bn in Q4, more than accounted for by lending to securities dealers (+£16.1bn), insurance companies and pension funds (+£5.3bn) and mortgage and housing credit corporations (+£4.9bn). Lending to NFCs rose by £12.0bn, largely accounted for by increases in lending to firms involved in the development, buying, selling and renting of real estate (+£5.7bn) and electricity, gas and water supply (+£3.9bn).
