Analysis of bank deposits from and lending to UK residents
3rd Quarter 2006
Deposits from OFCs increased by £32.5bn in Q3, driven by deposits from other financial intermediaries, (+£20.2bn). Deposits from NFCs rose by £6.1bn, mainly reflecting increases from public administration & defence (+£3.1bn), legal, accountancy, consultancy and other business activities (+£2.0bn) and development, buying, selling and renting of real estate (+£1.9bn).
Lending to other financial corporations (OFCs) increased by £5.1bn in Q3. Lending to other financial intermediaries rose strongly (+£11.8bn), but securities dealers reduced their borrowings by £17.6bn. Lending to non-financial corporations (NFCs) rose by £22.6bn, driven by increases in development, buying, selling and renting of real estate (+£6.1bn), transport, storage and communication (+£4.4bn), construction (+£2.6bn) and legal, accountancy, consultancy and other business activities (+£2.6bn).
