Analysis of bank deposits from and lending to UK residents
1st Quarter 2007
Deposits from other financial corporations (OFCs) increased by £39.2bn in Q1. This was mainly accounted for by increased deposits from other financial intermediaries (+£22.8bn) and securities dealers (+£17.3bn), partly offset by a reduction in deposits from other auxiliary activities (-£10.4bn). Deposits from non-financial corporations (NFCs) rose by £11.2bn, mainly reflecting increases from legal, accountancy, consultancy and other business activities (+£5.0bn) and public administration and defence ( £4.9bn.)
Lending to OFCs increased by £81.9bn in Q1, more then accounted for by lending to securities dealers (+£39.6bn),other financial intermediaries (+33.3bn) and fund management activities (+£16.5bn). Lending to NFCs rose by £11.3bn, largely accounted for by firms involved in the development, buying, selling and renting of real estate (+£6.8bn), construction (+£1.7bn) and hotels and restaurants (+£1bn).
