Analysis of monetary financial institutions' deposits from and lending to UK residents
June 2010
All currency deposits from other financial corporations (OFCs) fell by £7.7bn in June. The decline was more than accounted for by reduced deposits from other financial intermediaries (-£9.7bn) and other auxiliary activities (-£3.2bn), while bank holding companies (+£3.6bn) and fund managers (+£3.3bn) increased their deposits. Deposits from non-financial corporations (NFCs) rose by £3.7bn - the increase was more than accounted for by increased deposits from legal, accountancy, consultancy and other business activities (+£2.1bn) and development, buying, selling and renting of real estate (+£1.9bn).
All currency lending to OFCs fell by £34bn in June. A rise in sterling lending to OFCs (+£12.6bn) was more than offset by a fall in foreign currency lending (-£46.6bn). The decrease in all currency lending was more than accounted for by securities dealers (-£19.2bn), fund managers (-£9.8bn) and other auxiliary activities (-£7.5bn). Lending to NFCs fell by £7.7bn; lending to manufacturing decreased by £2.4bn.
