- Gross capital issuance by UK residents was £37.5bn in May, compared to £37.6bn in April and the previous six month average of £42.3bn (Chart 1).
- Net issuance was £4.3bn in May, compared to -£7.4bn in April and the previous six month average of £1.1bn (Chart 1).
- Year-to-date gross issuance was £218.9bn, £26.2bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 2).
- Year-to-date net issuance was £17.3bn, £36.3bn lower than at the same point the previous year (Chart 3).

Bond issuance
- Gross bond issuance was £21.1bn in May, compared to £20.9bn in April and the previous six month average of £24.7bn (Chart 4).
- Net bond issuance was £3.9bn in May, compared to -£7.3bn in April and the previous six month average of £0.2bn (Chart 4).
- The increase in net issuance was primarily driven by a decrease in repayments by the MFI sector.

Commercial paper issuance
- Gross commercial paper issuance was £14.1bn in May, compared to £14.4bn in April and the previous six month average of £15.4bn (Chart 5).
- Net commercial paper issuance was -£0.9bn in May, compared to -£1.3bn in April and the previous six month average of -£0.9bn (Chart 5).
- The small increase in net issuance was driven by a decrease in repayments by both the MFI and OFC sectors, which were only partially offset by an increase in PNFC repayments.

Equity issuance
- Gross equity issuance was £2.4bn in May, compared to £2.2bn in April and the previous six month average of £2.2bn (Chart 6).
- Net equity issuance was £1.3bn in May, compared to £1.2bn in April and the previous six month average of £1.7bn (Chart 6).
- Net equity issuance remained unchanged when compared to the previous month, as an increase in activity by the PNFC sector offset a decrease by the OFC sector.
