This statistical release covers the consolidated worldwide external claims and unused commitments of UK-owned monetary financial institutions (excluding central banks) and their branches and subsidiaries worldwide.

Key points

  • UK-owned monetary financial institutions and their branches and subsidiaries worldwide reported an increase in consolidated external claims on an ultimate risk basis of $45.6 billion during 2021 Q1, to a level of $4,064.1 billion.
  • By sector, the largest increase was on the public sector, up $39.1 billion to a level of $1,391.7 billion. This was partially offset by a decrease on the non-bank private sector, down $13.9 billion to a level of $2,107.8 billion.
  • By region, the largest increase in claims was on Developed Countries, up $29.2 billion to a level of $2,432.3 billion
