External business of banks operating in the UK
4th Quarter 2005
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK grew by $55.0 billion during Q4 2005, a smaller increase than in recent quarters. Increases in liabilities to Offshore Centres and Developing Countries were partially offset by a fall in liabilities to Developed Countries, notably falls against Germany and Switzerland.
During Q4 2005, external claims of banks operating in the UK rose by $75.5 billion. Claims on all regions rose, with particularly large increases reported against France and the Netherlands. A notable fall was reported against Germany.
