External business of banks operating in the UK
2nd Quarter 2005
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK grew by $163.1 billion during Q2 2005, a slightly weaker rise than in the previous quarter. Notable increases were reported to the Bahamas, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands, the United States and the Cayman Islands.
During Q2 2005, external claims of banks operating in the UK also rose significantly, by $226.8 billion. Considerable growth in claims were reported against the United States, the Cayman Islands and Switzerland. Small falls were reported against Korea and China, contributing to the overall decline in claims on developing countries over the quarter.
