External business of banks operating in the UK
1st Quarter 2005
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK grew by $247.6 billion during Q1 2005, a much larger increase than in recent quarters. Liabilities to all regions rose over the quarter, with notable increases to the United States, Germany, France, Switzerland, Russia and the Cayman Islands. A partially offsetting fall was reported to Japan.
During Q1 2005, external claims of banks operating in the UK also rose significantly, by $273.5 billion. Considerable increases in claims were reported against the United States, France, Germany, the Netherlands and the Cayman Islands. There was a notable fall against Japan.
