External business of banks operating in the UK
1st Quarter 2006
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK grew by $427.9 billion during Q1 2006, a much larger increase than in recent quarters. Liabilities to all regions rose over the quarter, with the largest rise reported against Developed Countries, particularly the United States, the Netherlands and Germany.
During Q1 2006, external claims of banks operating in the UK rose by $366.2 billion, again a far larger increase than in recent quarters. The bulk of the increase was due to rising claims on Developed Countries, with considerable growth reported against the United States, Germany and France.
