External business of banks operating in the UK
4th Quarter 2007
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK rose by $372.8 billion during Q4 2007, a similar increase to the previous quarter. Liabilities to Developed countries drove the increase, in particular deposits from Switzerland, the Netherlands and Ireland. Liabilities to Offshore Centres and Developing countries also rose.
During Q4 2007, external claims of banks operating in the UK rose by $246.5 billion, again a similar increase to the previous quarter. Rising claims on Developed countries drove the increase, with large contributions from Switzerland, the Netherlands and Japan. Claims on the United States, Germany and France showed the largest falls.
