External business of banks operating in the UK
1st Quarter 2007
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK grew by $684.8 billion during Q1 2007, a far larger increase than in recent quarters. Liabilities to all regions rose over the quarter, with particularly large increases reported on Developed Countries, notably Switzerland, France, the United States and the Netherlands.
During Q1 2007, external claims of banks operating in the UK also rose significantly, up $597.4 billion. This was also driven by increasing claims on Developed Countries, with the largest increases reported against the United States and Switzerland.
