External business of banks operating in the UK
3rd Quarter 2007
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK increased $399.2 billion during Q3 2007. Liabilities to all regions rose over the quarter, driven by increased deposits from Developed Countries and Offshore Centres. Of particular note were increases reported against the United States, Jersey, Hong Kong, Japan, China and Russia.
During Q3 2007, external claims of banks operating in the UK rose by $269.0 billion. Sizeable increases in claims were reported against the United States, Germany, the Cayman Islands, Norway and Japan. Claims on Taiwan, the Netherlands and Italy showed the largest falls.
