External business of banks operating in the UK
1st Quarter 2008
External liabilities of banks operating in the UK rose by $335.6 billion during Q1 2008, a larger increase than last quarter. Liabilities to Developed countries drove the movement, due to increased deposits from the United States, France and Japan. Liabilities to Offshore Centres also rose, while liabilities to Developing Countries fell.
During Q1 2008, external claims of banks operating in the UK increased by $292.9 billion. Large increases in claims were reported against Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Spain and Japan. Claims on Offshore centres fell, while claims on Developing Countries rose.
