Sectoral breakdown of aggregate M4 and M4 lending March 2005

29 April 2005

The annual growth of M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to the household sector slowed to its weakest since May 2002.  The annual rate of growth of the household sector's holdings of M4 also slowed. Private non-financial corporations' (PNFCs') holdings of M4 increased in March, having fallen in February, while M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to PNFCs was stronger than the weak outturn in February. The annual growth of M4 deposits held by other financial corporations (OFCs) increased to its strongest since January 2001.  Weak M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to OFCs led to a fall in the annual growth rate.

Changes in aggregate holdings of M4 and M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) in March, shown in Table C, were revised down from those released provisionally, by £1.3 billion and £0.8 billion respectively.
