Sectoral breakdown of aggregate M4 and M4 lending May 2005

The annual growth of M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to the household sector fell slightly to 11.3%, after an increase in May of £8.1 billion. The annual rate of growth of the household sector's holdings of M4 remained at 8.7%. Private non-financial corporations (PNFCs) increased their holdings of M4 by £5.6 billion, the largest monthly rise since January, while the rate of M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to PNFCs fell to 12.2% following strong growth in the preceding two months. The £11.7 billion rise in M4 held by other financial corporations (OFCs) was the strongest since March 2000, raising the annual growth rate to 21.5%. M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to OFCs was also strong, the largest rise since September 2002.

Funds raised by PNFCs from UK MFIs and the capital markets were £1.5 billion in May; weaker than the average of the previous six months of £3.0 billion. Further information on capital issues can be found in the Capital Issuance statistical release of 20 June.
