Sectoral breakdown of aggregate M4 and M4 lending

M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to the household sector rose by £9.1 billion in January. The annual growth rate remained unchanged at 10.4%. Annual growth in the household sector's holdings of M4 fell by 0.3pp to 8.0%. M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to private non-financial corporations (PNFCs) rose by £2.8 billion in January, with annual growth increasing by 0.3pp to 18.7%. PNFCs' holdings of M4 increased by £5.2 billion; annual growth increased by 1.0pp to 13.4%. Holdings of M4 by other financial corporations (OFCs) increased by £3.9 billion and M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc) to OFCs increased by £21.4 billion in January.

Funds raised by PNFCs from UK MFIs and the capital markets totalled to £4.2 billion in January, lower than the £4.9 billion recorded in December. Further information on capital issues can be found in the Capital Issuance release of 20 February.
