Provisional estimates of broad money (M4) and credit (M4 lending)

Provisional figures for April indicate that M4 rose by £17.1 billion, seasonally adjusted; above the average rise for the previous six months of £14.2 billion. The twelve-month growth rate rose to 13.1% from 12.4% in March.


M4 lending increased by £27.9 billion or 1.6%, seasonally adjusted, in April. The twelve-month growth rate rose to 12.6% from 11.4% in March.


M4 lending (excluding the effects of securitisations etc.) increased by £31.5 billion or 1.7%, seasonally adjusted, in April. The twelve-month growth rate rose by 1.3 percentage points to 14.6% in April; this is the highest since November 1990.
