1. Discontinuation of Form B1 (effective immediately)
As part of the rolling review process the content and use of the data collected on Form B1 has been reviewed. It was evident that some significant changes could be made to reduce the reporting burden on banks, as similar information is collected on Form CC. After consultation with the British Bankers' Association and the Financial Services Authority, it has been agreed that we will discontinue Form B1 with immediate effect. All banks affected by the discontinuation of Form B1 have been notified directly.
If you have any queries relating to the abolition of Form B1 please contact Kerry Baker (Tel. 020 7601 3754).
2. Update of Classification of Accounts Guide (effective
immediately)
The list of money market mutual funds within the
Sector Categories section of the classification of accounts
guide has been updated, as has the list of countries within
the miscellaneous section.

3. Form BT definitions: Item 47 (Other UK residents'
retail deposits clarification (effective
immediately)
The definition for Form BT item 47 has been clarified
and brought in line with the validations. The
definition now states that retail deposits should
not include deposits from building societies
(in addition to not including deposits from non-residents,
the public sector or banks). This change does
not affect the validations for Form BT.
When submitting end-March data please advise Alastair Thomas (020 7601 5481) of any data changes in excess of £100mn.

5. Money Market Reform (reminder)
Reporters are reminded that following on from Statistical Notice 2005/08, dated 2 December 2005, the revised Form BT should be used with effect from end-March 2006 reporting; this Form includes the amended definition of eligible liabilities.
Once Money Market Reform goes “live”, which is expected to be in the period between April and June 2006, reporters are reminded that any banks borrowing from the Bank of England should report the borrowing as a repo and therefore include it within Items 6A or 7A (depending on the collateral), and banks placing funds with the Bank of England should report these within Item 21B along with the voluntary reserve account.
When the introduction date of Money Market Reform has been formally
agreed, the Bank will make an announcement to that affect. If
you have any queries regarding this please contact our Helpdesk
on 020 7601 5360.
